Hi, I'm JT
I made SearchBelt.com because as a Christian I needed a search engine that helps me be a better steward of God's resources, make it easier and more fluid to find Christian resources in everyday searches, and to be a layer of protection from unrighteous materials.
The name Search Belt comes from the Ephesians 6 passage about the armor of God. Our mission is to help you equip the "belt of truth".
Important: I do not want to imply any spiritual implications to using this search engine. I'm just a man, and nothing I create is a substitute for what God leads you to do. Even though I want this search engine to help you in your walk with Christ, this search engine can be described as an improvement upon current technology for Christians, but not a complete solution built from the ground-up. Please recommend, but do not pressure fellow believers into using this search engine.
Do you use your money, resources, and time in such a way that furthers God's kingdom? I'm not just talking about donating money, I'm talking about supporting people and businesses that seem to espouse Christian values.
With Search Belt, there is not a high likelihood that every result you click on will be a Christian organization. But we employ sophisticated ranking systems to greatly increase the likelihood this happens.
The internet is a vast resource that encompasses human greatness and human degeneracy. Godly wisdom, and earthly sin. The challenge for Christians is knowing the difference before we click. Sometimes it's not obvious which is which, and the very temptation to click on a sinful headline is something we are called to avoid. As Matthew 26 says, "the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak", so I say don't give your flesh the chance to contradict your spirit.
This search engine is not related to any denomination of Christianity. We do not attempt to filter content based on our own version of theology, doctrines, or interpretations. If a publisher is intentionally unrighteous, that's the clear sign we might start to derank them.
We do not promise using this service you will never see the sort of content that is antithetical to your faith. There are billions of pieces of content on the web, and we cannot manually sift through all of the content. Furthermore, there are some websites we do not want to ban but may contain some disagreeable content. For instance, you can find adult content on Wikipedia and Reddit, but these sites also contain a lot of great information.
We do to make the likelihood of stumbling upon that content by accident far more unlikely than other search engines.
For instance, all major search engines have a certain safe-search setting, I was joking around about what to refer to this toggle as when writing this with my wife, and came up with a few funny names for it. Three of the funniest options "temptation toggle", "the devil's dropdown", and "satan's search setting". Whatever you call it, we don't have it. Safe search is always on.
Secondarily, we manually find websites and user reports on our contact page to remove pages from our entire search engine when they don't seem to have any redeemable content.
Third, we de-rank pages (they are still in the index but less likely to be first page or top of first page) that contain language and content types as we see fit.
How to Support Us
I strongly believe your donations are better served with your local church and Christian charitable organizations, so I don't accept donations for this particular service.
Search Belt is a for-profit company that makes money from advertising revenue and other related partnerships. The best way to support us is to simply use the service when you search for products and services you want to buy, and we'll likely make ad revenue in the process.
Another way to support us is through prayer. We strongly believe in the power of prayer, so consider praying that searchbelt.com is a positive force used for God's kingdom.
Finally, the service can only make an impact if there are people who utilize it. Tell your Christian friends, family, accountability partner, church, radio station, and social media about Search Belt!
With love, JT
